Staatliche Realschule Feucht

England-Broadstairs-Diary

Monday, 22nd March

We got at up at 7.30 a.m. and after we took a shower we had some breakfast at 8.15 a.m..Then we went to school and we were very excited about the school lessons here in Broadstairs at the Kent School of English.

The Kent School of English

Our first lessons were very funny, there were three Italians in our class and the rest were from different German schools. Being very hungry afterwards we had to eat something, so we went to a first-class-kebab restaurant, but the food didn´t taste very delicious.
After lunch we met at the clock tower at 14.00 p.m. for the KSE Observation Quiz. Of course our group won the first price (it was some sweets). After that quiz we went to our host family for dinner and we had an hour of relaxing in our small but comfortable room before we met in Vere Road at 19.30 p.m. to go to the cinema and we saw the latest movie: Alice in Wonderland. We didn´t understand very much of it but knowing the plot made it a bit easier. At 22.30 p.m. we arrived at home and we were happy to be in our beds at last.

The alarm clock interrupted our sweet dreams at 7.30 a.m. and we had breakfast again at 8.30 a.m. . Then we went to school at 8.50 a.m. because it wasn´t far away. This morning we were separated into classes of different knowledge levels , due to the results of a test that we had to write the day before. Me and my friends were proud to be in level 4.1. . After school we had some lunch and then we went on  a trip to Margate and did a ten- pin bowling competition at Bugsy´s Bowling Alley.

Then we had dinner with our host family and in the evening we met at the Kent School of English for the KSE Culture Quiz. Again it was our team that won the first prize and got some sweets. At 22.00 p.m. we were at home and took a shower after that exhausting day.

It was the same procedure as every morning: We woke up at 7.30 a.m. and  had breakfast at 8.30 a.m. . At 8.50 a.m. we went to school, but our class was smaller because the Dinkelsbühl group visited London that day. So we were divided into two groups this day. At lunch time we decided to try a burger restaurant and – what a big surprise - it tasted good. At 13.15 we met at Vere Road and went on a trip to Canterbury.

Canterbury Cathedral

We were shown round the city by  a tour guide and learned much about the history of Canterbury. Afterwards we were allowed to go shopping. Most of us bought shoes or souvenirs like  'I Love London' T- shirts. Our evening activity was visiting the Broadstairs Pavilion for the Barn Dance.

It was really funny,  my friends and me were laughing all night. There was a competition, too and our school had to compete with a school from eastern Germany, again we won.

The lessons were extremely funny today because we played games. The Dinkelsbühl Group had to leave the next day, so we had a choice of activities for this afternoon. Most of my friends chose swimming but Jasmine and me chose art and we made colorful wristbands. In the evening we went to a disco. It was the best evening activity during our stay in England. We finally came home at 10.30 p.m. and we both took a shower, but we had to ask our host family first! Although we were very tired we were talking till 1.00 a.m. when we finally fell asleep at last.

School was again really funny today, because it was the last day and at the beginning we played some English games. After that we had to fill in a schedule writing down our opinion about the stay here in Broadstairs. After school we had lunch at the Dickens’ restaurant and then we met at the clock tower at 14.00 p.m. for a coastal walk to Ramsgate (3km), it was very nice but very windy.

We enjoyed it. In the evening we met at 19.30 p.m. at Vere Road for a Karaoke evening at Bugsy´s. We all had a lot of fun, many boys and girls of our group tried to sing and some did perfectly well.

We had to get up earlier today because we met at Vere Road  for the long desired visit to London. It took almost two hours till we arrived at Greenwich Park. In Greenwich we entered  a boat  that took us to the Tower Bridge.

Tower Bridge

We crossed the bridge, which was very exciting and I took so many photos that my camera´s batteries ran flat. We met at the Tower of London to get on one of those double-decker sightseeing buses.

After one and a half hour´s  time we hopped off at Marble Arch and got the opportunity of going shopping in Oxford Street.

Then we continued our trip and went past Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace. Back at the Tower we took a train to the Docklands, walked back to Greenwich in a tunnel under the Thames  and went back to Broadstairs.

We drove home to Feucht the next day, and it was a very long journey.

But in the end we were very happy to see our families again, although we enjoyed our stay in Broadstairs very much.
